“Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner is part of who I am. I play football in Ruislip; my daughter's childcare is in Northwood; many of my relatives rest in peace in Pinner New Cemetery. I have been a councillor and cabinet member locally for ten years.

I know RNP, its wonderful people, and its issues that need addressing. And I have the track record and experience to tackle these issues.”

My priorities for you

As your Labour MP for Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner, my priorities will be to:

1. Restore pride and hope in our community. RNP is a beautiful, historic constituency. But it has gone backwards under the Tories; high streets getting run down, libraries and community assets sold off, street-cleaning cut. I will show residents how Britain will get its future back under Labour and restore the ‘British dream’; by moving to a fairer, greener future with GB Energy, tackling the housing crisis through planning reform, and creating a solid, vibrant growing economy that will benefit future generations in RNP.

2. Tackle the economic crisis facing families. Families in RNP are some of the very worst affected in the country for mortgage increases. I have called on the Conservative administration locally to provide better support and signposting for families. I will work tirelessly with a Labour government to bring back growth to Britain and tackle inflation and the cost of living crisis. Essential to this is providing truly affordable housing locally.

3. Rebuild our public services. I have worked closely with Gareth Thomas MP to raise the uncertain future of Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood in Parliament and will work with a Labour government to bring our health and care service back from the brink. We need to fix our broken childcare system and undo the damage caused by school cuts over the last 14 years.

4. Make our streets safe again. Crime in RNP is on the rise. As a local councillor I have a track record of working locally with police, residents and businesses to bring down crime rates and vow to do so in RNP, working closely with our Safer Neighbourhood Teams. I will campaign to see our police counters reinstated across Hillingdon. And I’ll work with our brilliant local businesses to revitalise our high streets.

5. Act on the climate emergency and ensure a green future. We need to protect our countryside and woods across Hillingdon and Harrow, ensuring families and future generations can enjoy our beautiful nature for years to come. We need to revitalise our wonderful community spaces like Ruislip Lido & Woods and Pinner Park Farm whilst moving towards to a growing, vibrant, decarbonised, green economy.

My track record locally

I wrote Harrow Labour's 2018 manifesto, contributing to the largest ever Labour victory in the borough. I was subsequently Cabinet Member responsible for overseeing manifesto implementation which included: a £600m+ pound regeneration; the first council homes built for over 30 years; and the delivery of the council's net zero commitments. I was also Chair of the Governance, Audit, Risk Management & Standards Committee at the Council. Since 2022 I have been Chair of the Labour Group. I was also a governor at Harrow College for ten years, latterly chair of the College as it went from strength to strength and merged with Uxbridge College, serving many students in Hillingdon.

I have successfully campaigned for:

  • £7.5m investment into Wealdstone high street

  • New community artwork and murals

  • Reduced crime and antisocial behaviour, through improved community working

  • Improvements to public transport access

  • Improved use of data to support high streets, residents and local businesses

About me

Born and raised in Bradford, West Yorkshire to a Mexican mother and Irish-American father, I realised that in our great country it shouldn’t matter where you come from. What matters is the contribution you make.

I have lived here in Harrow and Hillingdon for the past sixteen years, with my wife and family.

A winning record

I believe passionately that effective public services are the key to tackling injustice and inequality in Britain. I’ve spent my life making real change happen in our society through our public services. As a three-times elected councillor, increasing my vote share by 30 per cent, and cabinet member I helped to build new council homes, create hundreds of new jobs and apprenticeships, improve high streets, create new cultural spaces, bring in hundreds of millions of pounds of investment – and hope.

For the past four years I’ve advised the Labour Party on strategy and organisational issues and for the past year I’ve worked for Keir Starmer, in the Leader of the Opposition’s Office, as a Senior Advisor on Digital, Data and Technology and with Jonathan Ashworth MP on Labour’s plans for brilliant, digitally-enabled, public services.

National experience

As a professional working in public services, I’ve spent sixteen years working at a national and regional level; helping our public services deliver better care, making our schools systems fairer, promoting investments in technical education as an FE college chair and supporting our transition to a green, decarbonised economy, and doing so in a way that supports people as we go. As a proud trade unionist, I’ve worked in lockstep with our unions, helping ensure access to credit unions and better wages for workers.

I’ve worked to improve patient care through setting up the £250m NHS AI Lab, helped make digital services more accessible to the public through the creation of Gov.UK Notify which has sent billions of messages to citizens, campaigned with the British Red Cross for additional support for some of the most vulnerable users of A&E services and helped find new employment opportunities for those seeking asylum in our country with the Refugee Council.

I have written five books on business and technology, three of which were international bestsellers for the Financial Times. I am an affiliated researcher at the University of Cambridge’s Bennett Institute and hold a PhD and Eric Hobsbawm Scholarship from Birkbeck, University of London.

Committed to you

RNP is a beautiful constituency, but the beauty masks injustices; families struggling with the cost of living, our environment under threat, and our NHS under enormous strain.

As a husband and father to two wonderful children, I am driven by a desire to tackle these injustices: to build a better future for future generations.

That’s why I’m asking for your support to be your Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner.

My plan for turning Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner red

We desperately need a visible, hard-working MP, always on the side of constituents. I will be this for you. Here’s what I’ll do to make sure we turn RNP red:

Energise, unite and mobilise our membership: I will reach out to all members and invite them to inclusive campaigning sessions delivered across a variety of media: door-to-door, leafleting, phone canvassing and digital. I will unite us across Hillingdon and Harrow so we act as one CLP.

Grow a high-profile, winning campaign: I have the experience and connections to bring media attention, high-profile visits and volunteers to win.

Build the partnerships and relationships needed to win: I will work with our brilliant activists and Labour councillors across Hillingdon and Harrow and work closely with our battleground twin of Uxbridge, South Ruislip, to help deliver many victories across north-west London.

Fundraise to win and serve: I will fundraise so we have sufficient funds to deliver a brilliant, winning campaign locally.

Take RNP forward: I will put forward an ambitious, forward-looking plan for our constituency which builds on its heritage and tradition whilst tackling the challenges we face today.

Proudly endorsed by:

Unions and affiliates have the opportunity to give their backing to potential candidates in this selection. I’m honoured to be the only candidate to receive endorsements, and from such a wide range of brilliant organisations from across our movement.
